WOW is GLCS’s hugely popular personal development course for same-sex attracted women.
The course allows women to explore their attraction to other women over six themed sessions before culminating with a community information and networking evening where the participants can learn about other community, social and sporting groups.
The course is run by trained volunteer facilitators, both same sex attracted women. It runs once a week, for three hours in the evening. A small fee is charged to help GLCS cover the cost of running the course. The structure of the course is:
Week 1 Introduction, Labels and Identity
Week 2 Sexuality, Pride and Coming Out
Week 3 Emotional Health
Week 4 Relationships
Week 5 Sex, Sexual Health and Safe Sex
Week 6 Community Panel and Networking
A very wide range of women complete the WOW course and that’s one of its strengths. While many of the women are in the early stages of coming out some have been “out” for years and are completing the course as a way to re-connect with the community and make new friends. We encourage a range of experience in the group because the participants learn a lot from each other.
Many women who are exploring their attraction to other women for the first time find the WOW course a useful and safe introduction to our community and social scene and a great way to meet new friends.
The next WOW course will be held mid to late 2011. If you would like to register your interest in attending please email your full contact details to admin@glcs.org.au, or fill out the expression of interest form below. Your details will be confidentially recorded and a WOW facilitator will contact you to confirm your place.
Please note the following:
- WOW is not open to couples. If you and your partner would like to do WOW we ask that you register for separate courses. This is so that you can both get the most out of the course. If you have any questions about this please contact us.
- Places for WOW are limited. Priority will be given to those who have not already completed the course.
- The course is not available to women under 18 years of age.
