Telephone Counselling and Information Line
Our counselling line allows people to explore their sexuality as it relates to them, without judgement or prejudice.
We help clients with a range of issues relating to sexuality, including coming out, as well as more general issues, such as relationship problems. This service is often the first point of contact for people coming to terms with a same sex attraction, but it is available to anyone, no matter how they identify – Gay, Straight, Bi, Queer or Curious. Our service is also increasingly being used by the friends and family of GLBTI people and mainstream service providers who are seeking accurate information and referral options for their relatives, friends or clients.
The service is confidential and staffed by trained peer volunteers.
Our phone counsellors can also:
- Refer you to a GLBTI-friendly doctor, lawyer, psychologist or counsellor
- Add you to our Shared Accommodation Register as offering or looking for accommodation.
- Tell you about the Perth/WA GLBTI community, including the “scene” (nightlife and clubbing) and “non-scene” alternatives to meet other gay or lesbian people, including Perth’s many social and sporting groups.
The counselling and information line operates weeknights 7pm to 10pm.

Women on Women (WOW) Course
WOW is GLCS’s hugely popular personal development course for same-sex attracted women.
The course allows women to explore their attraction to other women over six themed sessions before culminating with a community information and networking evening where the participants can learn about other community, social and sporting groups.
The course is run by two trained volunteer facilitators, both same sex attracted women. It runs once a week, for three hours in the evening. A small fee is charged to help GLCS cover the cost of running the course. The structure of the course is:
Week 1 Introduction, Labels and Identity
Week 2 Homosexuality, Pride and Coming Out
Week 3 Emotional Health, Being a Woman, Stress
Week 4 Relationships
Week 5 Sex, Sexual Health and Safe Sex
Week 6 Closure, followed by course dinner
Week 7 Community Panel and Networking
A very wide range of women complete the WOW course and that’s one of its strengths. While many of the women are in the early stages of coming out some have been “out” for years and are completing the course as a way to re-connect with the community and make new friends. We encourage a range of experience in the group because the participants learn a lot from each other.
Many women who are exploring their attraction to other women for the first time find the WOW course a useful and safe introduction to our community and social scene and a great way to meet new friends.
The next WOW course is likely to start September/October 2010. If you would like to register your interest in attending please email your full contact details to admin@glcs.org.au or call the Office on 9486 9855 (leave a message if necessary). Your details will be confidentially recorded and a WOW facilitator will contact you as soon as the next course is scheduled.
Personal Perspectives Talks

Our trained public speakers can visit your school, University, TAFE College or workplace to provide personal insights into their lives as gay men or lesbians. They can help your students or staff replace the myths and stereotypes that abound in our culture with a more accurate and contemporary understanding of diverse sexuality and gender.
- Our public speakers have been invited to talk to: The Royal College of GPs
- Curtin University nursing school
- Notre Dame University medical school
- Ballajura Community College students
- The Baptist Church’s annual AMUC Youth Camp
We are also often invited to attend University O-Days and other public events such as the Big Day Out.
